Kakkanad: As part of Kerala government’s K-store project, the civil supplies department is planning to convert ration shops into high tech centres.
The idea is to offer services, including banking and ATM facilities, at ration shops along with the provision of food products and other household items.
In the initial phase, changes will be implemented in five ration shops, two in Kunnathunad taluk, one each in Aluva, Kothamangalam and Kochi taluks.
Reportedly, district supply officer B Jayasree has submitted a list of the selected ration shops to the civil supplies department in this regard. The plan is to implement the project by this month.
The project aims to provide services, including Akshaya centre, Supplyco products, micro ATM, Milma products, mini LPG cylinders and 13 varieties of food items, at ration shops.
