Thiruvananthapuram: The K-Rail's panel discussion on the SilverLine semi high-speed rail corridor will be held today. However, two panellists who were supposed to talk against the proposed project backed off reducing the panel to four. Only former engineering college principal RVG Menon is in the panel to oppose the project.
Retired railway board member Subodh Kumar, Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry president SN Raghuchandran Nair, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University former vice-chancellor Dr Kuncheria P Isaac are the other panellists. RVG Menon will be given more time to present his version.
The discussion is at the Taj Vivanta Hotel here at 11 in the morning.
Meanwhile, the opponents of the project are holding various parallel discussions. One is on Thursday itself, at the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club at 3 in the evening. 'Movement for People's Friendly Development' is organising the event.
'Janakeeya Prathirodha Samiti' is holding another 'open discussion' on May 4. Chief minister and K-Rail MD are invited to attend the event. Dr Thomas Isaac, Kuncheria Isaac, Systra MD will be invited to speak for the project while former railway engineer Alok Verma and environmentalist Sreedhar Radhakrishnan, who backed off from today's panel discussion of the K-Rail, will also attend, the organisers said.
