The harvest and auction of the banana plant planted as a protest against K-rail

Mallappally: The harvest of the banana plant, symbolically planted to mark the protest against K-Rail here, took place on Monday. Held on Monday evening, the event was inaugurated by former MLA Joseph M Puthussery.

The banana plants were planted as per the call of the protest committee on Environment Day last year. The auction following the harvest on Monday was led by the strike organizing committee district Chairman Arun Babu and Convener Mukesh Nattakkal.

The auction continued for over an hour and a half and finally ended with a price of Rs 28,000 being called. The auction sum was handed over to Chengannur native Thankamma, on whose 3.5 cent property with a single-room house, a K-rail survey stone was laid after removing the stones the family had set up for a traditional stove.
