Thiruvananthapuram: The DPR of the K-Rail reveals that noise pollution may affect the mental health of the people living in the area. The report recommends that special attention should be given to educational institutions, hospitals and places of worship in the vicinity.

The DPR also recommends that measures should be taken to reduce noise pollution. Environmental and social impact assessments are included as part of the DPR. This study shows that people living in the vicinity of the K-Rail project area would suffer from noise pollution even during the construction phase. The same could be the case even after K-Rail starts service.

The report demands the authorities to find means to eliminate noise pollution. Since India does not have guidelines in this regard, it is suggested that US standards be implemented.
