K-FON initial phase completed: 1000 govt offices in 7 districts get connectivity


K-FON will set up a 35,000-kilometre-long optical fibre network in the state. This will be the largest network in Kerala. High speed internet will be available in IT parks, airports, seaports and similar areas.

Kakkanad (Ernakulam): In the initial phase of K-FON (Kerala Fibre Optic Network) project, connections were given in 1000 government offices in seven districts. IT secretary Mohammed Y Safirulla revealed this in a meeting held at Info Park here.

K-FON connectivity is being completed in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kollam districts. About 5700 government offices across the state will soon get connectivity.

Net connection at a speed of 10 MBps - 1 GBps will be available in over 30,000 government offices and educational institutions. About 20 lakh financially backward families will get free internet connection, IT secretary Mohammed Y Safirulla said.
