K-Fi: Kerala limits individual data usage at free Wi-Fi zones to 500 MB; Rs 9 for extra 1 GB

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has limited individual data usage via free Wi-Fi installed at various locations in the state to 500 MB per day. The move comes as the usage has been increasing. However, the users can opt for extra usage and the data plans start from Rs 9 for 1 GB.

2,000 free Wi-Fi zones were made operational at various parts of the state as a part of a government order of 2018. The initiative took the name KFi, and BSNL was assigned the responsibility of providing the Wi-Fi facility at major junctions, government offices and libraries.

The maximum data usage permitted in a day was 1 GB. Now, after the IT mission's evaluation, it has been decided to limit the usage to 500 MB.

The plans are as follows:

  • 1 GB a day: Rs 9
  • 3 GB for 3 days: Rs 19
  • 7 GB for 7 days: Rs 39
  • 15 GB for 15 days: Rs 59
  • 30 GB for one month: Rs 69
