Jumbo problem at Thrissur Pooram: Govt to hold discussions with owners on Thursday
Thiruvananthapuram: Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran said he would hold discussions with elephant owners to avoid problems and conduct the famed Thrissur Pooram smoothly.
“Heinous political motives are behind present deadlock. There are serious concerns over parading the elephant Thechikottukavu Ramachandran in the middle of a large crowd. Government's priority is the public’s safety. But the government is not against festivals,” the minister said.
Stating that the present decision of elephant owners was unfortunate, Kadakampally Surendran hoped that the owners would change their mind. He clarified that the government was planning to hold discussions with elephant owners on Thursday.
Agriculture minister V S Sunil Kumar, who hails from Thrissur, also clarified that the government will hold discussions with elephant owners on Thursday. He wondered why elephant owners took such a decision even before the court order came out.
Following the decision of elephant owner’s, Sunil Kumar had held discussions with Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi, the two major devaswoms organizing Thrissur Pooram.
