Joseph Jerin needs a safe way to reach school
Cherthala: Even if the rain stops, Joseph Jerin has to wait for another set of days to clear his way to school. A slight drizzle can submerge his way to the school under water. Physically challenged Joseph goes to school with the help of a motor-powered wheel chair. The boy is son of PJ Antony of Kadakkarappalli grama panchayat. Joseph has challenged his impairment to go to school, but still he needs outside help.
Joseph, a plus-two student of Kandamangalam Higher Secondary School, goes to school daily on his wheel chair. He has been staying inside the house for the past one week since the road to his house is submerged under water. In 2008, a road was constructed that is helpful for Joseph and other vehicles.
However, failure in renovation and preservation lead to the road submerging under water. Though the Gramapanchayat had sanctioned funds to construct a road till Joseph’s house, no further developments happened, say his parents. A compliant has been filed to collector, RDO and the panchayat authorities.
Fund for the tarred road had been sanctioned years back. But the project was blocked as a person took a stay against the road from court. The new administrative committee is removing the blockades of the project. And the road construction will begin soon, said V Mini, a panchayat member.
