Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF will not gain any particular benefit from Jose K Mani faction of Kerala Congress joining the front, said CPI Kerala state secretary Kanam Rajendran.
“The influence of Kerala Congress Jose K Mani faction was proven in the Pala assembly polls. Neither the LDF nor the UDf is guaranteed of the Christian votes in the present political context,” the CPI leader said.
Kanam Rajendran clarified that nobody has prevented Jose K Mani from joining the LDF. That matter has not been discussed yet, he added.
The LDF has not discussed or opined about having a new ally join the front. The differences with Kerala Congress are ideological, he said.
When asked whether he was afraid of CPI losing its second place in LDF, Kanam Rajendran responded by asking the difference between 19 and 2. “CPI has 19 MLAs while Jose faction has 2 MLAs. How will we (CPI) lose our spot in LDF,” he asked.
Kanam Rajendran clarified that there was no need for CPI to change its stance on Kerala Congress (M) joining the LDF.
“The weakening of UDF is beneficial for LDF. If UDF is weakened, LDF can win all seven seats in Kottayam. Mani C. Kappan won in Pala because LDF worked together. LDF is poised to retain power without the help of Kerala Congress,” he said.
