Jose K Mani faction to be ousted from UDF; KPCC toughens stand
Thiruvananthapuram: Jose K Mani faction of Kerala Congress could be ousted from UDF as per reports. The general opinion raised in the KPCC political committee meeting was that the Jose K Mani faction does not have to be taken back into the alliance.
A KPCC political affairs committee meeting was held when the party lost all hopes of a compromise with the Jose K Mani faction after they violated the UDF whip in the assembly. The meeting was held on Tuesday night.
The UDF leadership meet on September 3 will take a final decision on the issue. The leadership is moving towards ousting Jose K Mani faction from the front.
Congress does not mind if the Jose K Mani faction joins hands with LDF. Since Congress party, which is the most influential party in UDF, has taken such a stand, it is very unlikely that the Front could reverse the decision.
UDF may opt not to join hands with Jose K Mani until a new political development emerges in the state.
Roshi Augustin and N Jayarajan of Jose K Mani faction did not appear in the assembly while the no-confidence motion was presented. This was seen as betrayal by all the major allies of the UDF. They said that the Jose K Mani faction voluntarily moved out of the UDF by not taking part in the no-confidence motion against the LDF government.
Meanwhile, both factions of Kerala Congress will hand over a letter to the speaker to disqualify the other faction for violating the whip. The speaker’s decision on this will be final. However, the election commission’s declaration on which faction is official is yet to come. The Speaker may not take any action on this until the EC announces it.
It is reported that Jose K Mani faction will join LDF before the assembly elections. Unofficial discussions in the regard are going on.
