Thiruvananthapuram: Jose K Mani, leader of Kerala Congress (M)- a constituent of the ruling LDF- has come out against the government in the ongoing tussle with the Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum and fisherfolks of Vizhinjam who are up in arms against port construction in the state capital.

The government did not fulfil all its promises, he said on Monday. The response was not swift, he added.

Unlike the view taken by prominent members of the government, Jose said he does not think that the violent attack on the police station in Vizhinjam on Sunday was preplanned. “The violence was a sudden response. It is a peculiar place and a peculiar situation. "The government must fix it before it gets worse,” he said.

Jose also slammed the case filed against archbishop Thomas J Netto. The fact that the archbishop, who wasn't even at the location, was accused of conspiracy is unfortunate, he said.

The station was attacked on Sunday night after police took several people into custody over Saturday’s violence.

CPM has accused conspiracy behind the violence.
