Johnson Master, founder of 'Punarjani', passes away
Thrissur: Writer Johns K Mangalam aka Johnson Master who openly talked about his experiences as an alcoholic through the book 'Kudiyante Kumbasaram' passed away at the age of 58. He is also the founder of Punarjani rehabilitation centre that helps treat alcoholic patients. Set up 16 years ago, hundreds of people were brought back to normal life through this project.
Johnson Master used to recommend 21 days of treatment without any medicine for the patients. He had completed doctorate in Philisophy and also LLB. He worked as a professor in Kerala Varma College for 10 years and also served as the department head for 3 years. Later, he also worked as a lawyer for 10 years. He set up Punarjani in 2004.
Johnson Master was undergoing treatment for liver disease. He passed away at Amritha Hospital in Kochi on Wednesday morning at 9.50 am. He is survived by wife Raji George and son Sooraj Johns. Last rites was held at Poomala Parambaya St George's Orthodox Church cemetery on Thursday.
