As no other candidates contested the election, assembly secretary S Unnikrishnan Nair, who is a returning officer, announced that they have been elected unanimously.

Thiruvananthapuram: LDF candidates John Brittas and Dr V Sivadasan and UDF candidate P V Abdul Wahab were unanimously elected to Rajya Sabha.

The last date for withdrawing nomination was on Friday. As no other candidates were in fray, assembly secretary S Unnikrishnan Nair, who is the returning officer, announced that they have been elected unanimously.

The Rajya Sabha election was held as three seats fell vacant after the retirement of MPs K K Ragesh, Vayalar Ravi and P V Abdul Wahab.

Muslim League’s national treasurer P V Abdul Wahab is elected to the Rajya Sabha for the third time. He is the head of PeeVees Group of companies which has several enterprises abroad. He is son of Nilambur native Alavikutty of Pulikkalveettil and Fathima. Jasmine is his wife. They have four sons - Jabir, Javid, Ajmal and Afdal.

John Brittas is the managing director and chief editor of Kairali TV. He served as the media advisor to the chief minister. He had worked as a correspondent of Deshabhimani daily for 12 years. Hailing from Naduvil in Kannur, he is son of Paili and Annamma. His wife Sheeba is a railway employee. Anna and Anand are their children.

Dr V Sivadasan is CPM state committee member. He was SFI national president. Currently, he is KSEB director board member. Son of Narayanan Nambiar and Velluva Madhavi, Sivadasan hails from Peravoor in Kannur. His wife Shahana Valsan is a teacher at Ancharakkandi High School. They have a son Sithov and a 11-month-old daughter.
