Thrissur: The AR police camp in Thrissur’s Ramapuram is in grief over the death of Bella, who served at the office for seven-and-a-half years.

Bella was a dog skilled in explosive detection in the K-9 police dog squad. It was undergoing treatment at the Kokkala veterinary hospital for the past week after suffering from pneumonia and jaundice. Bella died on Sunday. Senior civil police officer PC Jilesh was Bella’s caretaker for seven-and-a-half years.

It became a part of the department after nine months of training in 2015. Jilesh has been Bella’s handler since then. Jilesh had prepared all the documents for permission to take Bella home once it retired from service after nine years of age.

Bella’s funeral was completed with official honours. Department personnel and four sniffer dogs gave the guard of honour.
