Jayasurya's backwater encroachment demolished

Kochi: The Kochi Corporation has demolished the encroachment of backwaters by actor Jayasurya at Chilavannur .

The action was initiated after the Tribunal for local bodies rejected the petition filed by Jayasurya against the move to demolish the encroachment.

Public activist Girish Babu filed the petition alleging that Jayasurya encroached the backwaters and hence the encroachment should be demolished. Though a favourable verdict was delivered on the petition filed one-and- a-half years back, further procedures were not initiated as Jayasurya had filed a petition.

Jayasurya’s house is on the borders of the Chilavannur backwaters.

The boat jetty, that was built on the backside of the house and in the backwaters to bring boats close to the land, led to the case.

A complaint have also been raised that puramboke land too was encroached to construct a compound wall. The Muvattupuzha Vigilance court had sought a report on the complaint in this regard. However, the corporation authorities say it was the irrigation department who laid the stone here and the wall was erected on top of it only.
