Thiruvananthapuram: Peroorkada police have recorded the statement of a woman over the complaint that her father, a local CPM leader, took away her baby.
Anupama S Chandran, the daughter of a Peroorkada CPI-M area committee member Jayachandran, came up with allegations against her family members afew days back.
She complained that her parents took away her baby on April 19 this year. Since then she has been complaining to various people, including DGP and chief minister, to get the baby back; but no action has been taken, she said. She also said that she will approach court for justice, if she does not get her baby back. The baby will turn one on October 19. It is learnt that the baby was given for adoption by the Child Welfare Committee.
A former SFI leader, Anupama had fallen in love with DYFI Peroorkada area president Ajith who was already married. Anupama's parents were not keen on this alliance. Anupama and Ajith could not start living together as he was not legally divorced at that time.
Meanwhile, Anupama gave birth to a baby on October 19 last year. According to Anupama’s complaint, the child was taken away from her by her father and relatives three days after the delivery. They had promised that the baby will be brought back once Anupama’s sister is married off.
However, they did not bring the child back even after her sister’s wedding. Following this, Anupama went with Ajith in April this year. Also they approached the authorities with complaint. On the basis of a complaint filed with the Child Welfare Committee, a baby received there on October 22 was subjected to DNA test. But, it was proved that the baby was not theirs.
Another baby received on the same date was already adopted by somebody else. So, they could not conduct DNA test. Since Anupama’s family refused to hand over her documents and identity cards, she could not even register their wedding, she alleged.
Meanwhile, Anupama’s father P S Jayachandran said that the baby was handed over to Child Welfare Committee with her consent as she was not capable to take care of the baby at that time. He added that they had obtained a consent letter attested by notary from her before taking the child.
When Anupama lodged a complaint, her family showed the letter to the police. Jayachandran said that if Anupama wants her child back, she can legally move for it. He also alleged that she is bringing up this issue to make controversy during party conferences.
