Kozhikode: The popularity of Janamaithri police has been once again proved to be intact as they rushed to help a family who were quarantined after coming from abroad, in order to prevent coronavirus outbreak. Kozhikode native Anand Ramaswamy, a bank employee in Dubai, came for the funeral of his mother. As he failed to collect the materials for the last rites while remaining in quarantine, Kasaba Janamaithri police extended a helping hand.
Anand's mother Geetha Narayanan passed away on March 15. On the next day, Anand and his brother Sooryanarayanan along with their families arrived at Kozhikode airport by 7.45 in the morning. As those who came from foreign countries are asked to remain under home-quarantine, they found it hard to get the items required for the funeral ceremony. They had to perform special rituals for 13 days in connection with the funeral. Though they contacted the shops that sell pooja items, there was no use.
Meanwhile, the family decided to explain the matter to Janamaithri police officers, who kept inquiring about their health on a daily basis. Even after the police asked some shopkeepers to deliver the required items, they did not help. Finally, Janamaithri beat officers K T Niraz and U P Umesh purchased the materials and tried to hire an auto rickshaw to reach the house. However, the auto drivers also refused to take them to the house of quarantined people.
With this, the officers rode on their bike carrying the items including coconut leaves, coconut flower bunch, pooja items, flowers and other things. They successfully delivered the stuff at the 'Prashanthi' house near Chalappuram Ganapath Girls Highschool. Their only relief was the mask they were wearing.
But Anand Ramaswamy was speechless when he received the unexpected help from the police officers. The family is under quarantine till March 29. So, they thought they should inform everyone about the incident and put up a Facebook post.
Beat officer Niraz responded on the incident that they did not think of anything else while going to deliver the items and were unaware of the photograph being captured. He went on saying that they are only happy to continue offering such help.
A total of 64 people are quarantined in 50 houses as directed by the Kasaba Janamaithri police. A person in Manakvu came out of home-quarantine violating the instructions. The police warned him and sent back home. Strict action will be taken against those who do not remain in quarantine.
