Vadakara: A consensus has been arrived in the Janakeeya Munnani consisting of Congress and Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) for the seat sharing in Onchiyam. Janekeeya Munnani is contesting in Onchiyam, Azhiyur, Eramala, Cherode gram panchayats and Vadakara block panchayat.
According to the agreement, in the 4 panchayats, RMP will contest in 24 wards while Congress will contest in 25 wards and Muslim league in 23 seats. In three seats independent candidates are fielded.
RMPI is contesting in 9 of the 17 seats in Ochiyam panchayat.
The Janakeeya Munnani agreement says that UDF and RMPI will not contest against each other in any seats. In the previous two local body elections, though there were similar agreement in few seats both had locked horns. This had benefited the LDF and hence Janakeeya Munnani decided not to contest against each other this time.
UDF was able to take administration in all panchayats in Vadakara block last time with the support of RMP. The support of LJD also helped UDF then. But this time, LJD is with the LDF and hence Janakeeya Munnani decided to take a new approach.
RMPI has declared candidate in one of the wards, ward no. 19, in Vadakara municipality. There is no UDF candidate here. The seat allotted to Muslim League was given to RMPI. In three more wards of the municipality RMPI may field its candidates.
