Jamaath Council state president A Pookunju passes away
Kollam: Kerala Muslim Jamaath Council state president Adv A Pookunju passed away here on Thursday. He was 74.
Son of late Hassanarukunju and Sainaba Umma, Pookunju completed his law studies from Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode government law colleges. During his college days, he entered politics through KSU.
Early in his career, he had practiced under Adv Sivasankaran, a noted lawyer at Kozhikode district court. Later Pookunju shifted to Mavelikkara court and then in 1980, to Alappuzha district court.
Pookunju has worked as the state president and general secretary of Jamaath Council for many years. He had raised his voice on reservation for Muslim community and against its backwardness.
He also worked as Indian Union Muslim League state committee member, Kerala state Waqf Board chairman, Alappuzha district government pleader and district notary.
He is survived by wife Adv Meharunissa, former employee at UCO Bank, and sons Adv VP Unais Kunju (district court Alappuzha) and Adv VP Uvais Kunju (Bahrain).
