Thiruvananthapuram: Thavanur MLA and former minister KT Jaleel, who sparked a fresh controversy by sharing a Facebook post on Kashmir, has violated the model code of conduct. Speaker can take action against Jaleel if a complaint emerges against him or if a complaint is forwarded to the committee on model code of conduct.

Jaleel’s Facebook post came up during his visit in association with the Expatriates Welfare Committee. Meanwhile, the model code of conduct strictly prohibits the Assembly members from raising critical remarks during such visits representing the committees.

Though CPM raised sharp disapproval against Jaleel’s comments over ‘Azad Kashmir’, the party and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan abstained from asserting the stance of the government regarding the issue. At the same time, BJP and Congress have resorted to turning the issue into a political weapon against the LDF-led government.
