Malappuram: Even when widespread protests were organised in the state demanding his resignation, minister KT Jaleel was busy at his residence with ‘choroonu’ and ‘ezhuthiniruthu’ ceremonies of his close friend’s child on Saturday. The minister administered the choorunu (feeding rice for the first time to a baby) of Ranjith's child even when protests were staged outside of his residence.

Ranjith said that he wanted Jaleel to conduct the ‘choroonu’ ceremony of his baby during Onam. However, it had to be postponed as Jaleel was busy during Onam. The minister reached his residence in Malappuram on Friday evening and so the ceremony was held on Saturday.

He also administered the 'ezhuthiniruthu' (initiation of learning) ceremony for another child on Saturday at his house.

KT Jaleel was interrogated by Enforcement Directorate in connection with the import and distribution of religious texts from UAE. Following this, protests were organised all over the state by opposition parties.

Various political parties organised protest marches to the minister’s residence in Malappuram on Friday evening and Saturday morning. A large police force has been deployed in front of the minister’s residence due to the protests.
