Jalandhar diocese not to offer financial help to Franco Mulakkal case
Jalandhar: Apostolic administrator for Jalandhar diocese Bishop Agnelo Gracias said that the diocese will not give financial help to fight the case of Bishop Franco Mulakkal for allegedly raping a nun. The financial support for the case is provided by Bishop Franco’s Mulakkal family in Kerala, said the administrator to media.
The diocese’s spokesperson Fr Peter Kavumpuram said neither the accused bishop or the petitioner has requested help to defend the case. The money needed for fighting the case is spent by bishop’s brother Philip Mulakkal, said the spokesperson.
The diocese has spent money only for his four flight journeys to Kerala and nothing else. Many priests have given petitions expressing their disagreement with bishop Franco, said Bishop Agnelo Gracias. Discussions will be held with the priests who raised complaints against him. If necessary, changes will be made to various committees and commissions related to diocese, added the administrator.
In the death of Fr Kuriakos Kattuthara, the diocese had directed to carry out every procedures in a transparent way. The Diocese administrator had asked to take the body of Fr Kuriakose to a government hospital instead of diocese’s hospital and had requested to record every moment in a camera.
