'Jailed in false case': Man commits suicide after informing police station


Thiruvananthapuram: A man committed suicide after informing Vizhinjam police station. Thiruvananthapuram Venganoor native Amaljith (28) hanged himself after informing the police that Idukki police had booked a false case and tortured him.

Amaljith alleged that he was jailed for 49 days and sent to a mental health centre for 17 days for a crime that he did not commit. The official who talked to him tried to make peace and stop him from taking the extreme step but in vein. Amaljith said he would send the call recording to everyone and then commit suicide.

Police conducted an investigation at Venganoor area in the meantime but he had ended his life before officials could reach the spot.

The man alleged that his wife was attacked by her first husband while she was pregnant and he tried to stop him. Amaljith claimed that the Thodupuzha circle inspector, however, filed a case against him.

He also said that his phone call should be recorded as the dying declaration. Police have started investigation into Amaljith’s allegations and the case.
