It has been decided to replace the security guards of Kerala Armed Police (KAP) with Scorpions of the Indian Reserve Battalion in all three central prisons. Body check will be made compulsory for the prison officers when they come to duty and while returning. A new team will be appointed for the body checking.

Also visitors to prisons will be subjected to screening in the same manner. Officers will check the prisoners’ block every day. If the DGP gets any information regarding lapses from the part of guards, they will be suspended immediately.

In a recent incident, there were no guards to monitor the prisoners while they were building a wall near the national highway outside the Kannur Central Prison compound. A local channel broadcast the visuals after talking with the prisoners.
