Jail DGP declares reward for officers who seize mobile phones from prisoners


The reward amount will be increased in proportion to the number of mobile phones seized from the prisoners.

Thiruvananthapuram: Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services Rishiraj Singh declared a reward worth Rs 2500 for the prison officers who seize mobile phones from jail inmates. The new move is with the intention to put an end to the use of mobile phones among prisoners and encourage activities of the jail officers.

The reward amount will be increased in proportion to the number of mobile phones seized from the prisoners. If phone is seized from the same prisoner for a second time, strict action will be taken against the jail superintendent.

A special WhatsApp group of the Jail DGP, Jail DIGs and Jail superintendents has been formed in order to exchange necessary information. No exemptions should be given to the visitors of prisoners. The meeting should be in the presence of jail officers.

A list of jail superintendents and deputy superintendents who have been working in the same prison for more than three years have been prepared. It is learnt that a staff reorganisation will take place shortly.
