Jacobite-Orthodox church dispute: Govt calls for conciliatory talks
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to hold conciliatory talks between Jacobite and Orthodox factions to settle the dispute over the churches. The government has invited both factions for discussion on September 10.
The government is initiating conciliation between both factions as the church dispute resulted in law and order violation. Earlier, the government took action to hand over the churches after the Supreme Court pronounced its verdict over the church dispute.
But the orthodox faction was not ready for conciliation talks. As the Supreme Court pronounced the verdict in their favour, the orthodox faction demanded to implement the court order.
Though the government is bound to implement the apex court order, the protest from the Jacobite faction cannot be neglected under current circumstances. The Jacobite faction criticized the government over using police force to take over the church.
However, both factions have not revealed their stand regarding attending the conciliation talks called by the government.
