Jacob Thomas reinstated as Metal Industries MD
Thiruvananthapuram: Jacob Thomas, who has been suspended from duty for the last 2 years, was reinstated as the Managing Director of Metal Industries Ltd in Shoranur. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on Monday, signed the order. However, it’s not clear whether Jacob Thomas would take up the new responsibility.
The new appointment was based on the Central Administrative Tribunal’s order to reinstate the former vigilance director. But his request to be appointed in a cadre position was overlooked. The Home secretary Biswas Mehta asked the chief secretary to find a suitable position for the suspended IPS officer.
Jacob Thomas was suspended in 2017 for criticising the state government. Later, he approached the Central Administrative Tribunal against the decision, which pointed out that a senior official in the rank of a DGP cannot be kept away from service for too long. But he had to approach the Tribunal again as he couldn’t get a positive response from the state government.
Although he had applied for voluntary retirement before the Lok Sabha elections, the plea was rejected by the Ministry of personnel, public grievances and pension on the basis of not meeting certain criteria. The state government handed over files regarding all the vigilance and crime branch cases against Jacob Thomas to the ministry.
