Malappuram: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has extended support to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor over the recent controversy related to his Malabar tour. While attending a conference here on Sunday, the IUML MLAs also condemned the internal feud within Congress.

“The recurring discussions over Tharoor cause inconvenience,” opined IUML leaders at the meeting.

Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal presided over the conference held at Malappuram.

A few Muslim League leaders pointed out that the disagreements between Congress members are also affecting the UDF.

“Though the controversies seemed to be subsided, the issues surfaced again with a conference held in Kottayam. Congress is likely to lose the opportunity for governance, if such issues continue to erupt, opined the MLAs.

The MLAs demanded that Congress should resolve the skirmishes soon and urged IUML leadership to intervene if necessary.

The grand reception for Shashi Tharoor at Panakkad was interpreted in many ways. For UDF, a compromise between Congress members is the need of the hour, observed IUML.

The Muslim League leaders also demanded that Congress leaders must take immediate action to settle the issues by considering the future of UDF.
