Thiruvananthapuram: There is a likelihood of rainfall and thundershowers at some places across the state from April 7 to April 11.
Gusty winds of speed 30-40 Kmph are also expected, according to the latest notification issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The lightning strikes are dangerous and have been causing damages to human lives and to property. In the wake of this Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has issued directions to be followed by the public. Some of the major guidelines are:
- Get inside a safe building as soon the early signs of lightning are spotted
- Do not go out or on to the rooftop when there is lightning
- Disconnect domestic electronic devices
- Close all the doors and window
- Do not touch any metal substance
- Keep distance from electronic devices
- Avoid using landline telephones (mobile phones can be used with precautions)
- Don’t leave pets/animals in open
- Avoid taking showers when there is lightning outside
- If you are outside, avoid standing under trees
- Do not step into a water body when there is lightning
- Do not fly kites
- If you are in open space, sit down with your head between your knees and with your feet close to each other
- Lightning shields can be used to protect buildings and surge protectors can be used to protect electronic devices
- If you are on closed vehicle, remain inside it and do not put your hands and legs outside
- Those who using cycle, tractor and motorcycle should find safe places for the halt
- If a person is hit by lightning, then provide first aid and immediate medical care
