Kottayam: In response to the reinstatement of former sub inspector M. S. Shibu of Gandhi Nagar police station who made serious lapses in the investigation into Kevin murder case, Kevin’s wife Neenu asked if the decision is the justice government had offered her.
‘I was heartbroken to know that the policeman who silently helped the criminals was reinstated on the first death anniversary of Kevin Chettan. I don’t have any politics or party. But it is unbearable to see those who are responsible for Kevin’s death wearing police uniform again. When Kevin lost his life, this person does not even lose his job. Is it the justice the government offered to serve me?’ Neenu asked.
‘This policeman is one of the main reasons for Kevin’s murder. It was he who allowed my family to forcefully take me home. We are adults, but he supported my family to take me away. When I gave statement to magistrate and court, I explained his brutal behaviour,' she said.
'I was happy when he was suspended based on my statement. Now he is reinstated claiming to have been demoted. Then why he was suspended then? The statement recording was a days-long process. Now all of them are in vain,’ she added.
Neenu also said that she and Kevin’s father had lodged a complaint in the police station after Kevin and his friend Aneesh were abducted. But the SI did not take it into consideration.
Though statement of Aneesh, who was later released by criminals, was recorded, the investigation was intentionally delayed. The SI had behaved meanly when Kevin and Neenu came to the station on the previous day. She said that she had explained all these details in her statement.
It was Kevin Chettan’s father who told me on Tuesday night that the SI was reinstated. First he said that he will commit suicide along with Kevin’s mother and sister. Then I tried to console them. They say that SI was reinstated without the knowledge of DGP. Is that possible?’ Neenu asked.
