Irregularities spotted in implementation of Life Mission by local bodies, reveals audit report
Thiruvananthapuram: The state audit department has detected irregularities in the way the local bodies implemented the Life Mission scheme.
It is stated in the report that the houses that were constructed as part of other schemes and the uncompleted projects also were granted funds as per the Life scheme.
The state government stopped auditing of local bodies when the audit report that detected irregularities in Life Mission is under consideration. The malpractices are found in the audit report submitted to the Assembly Local Funds Account Committee in 2018-19.
It is stated in the beginning of the report that the government guidelines are not followed when the local bodies implemented the Life Mission project. The houses constructed as part of Life Mission scheme in previous years were granted fund.
In Wayanad district, the projects which were part of EMS and IAY schemes also were provided the fund. Also the uncompleted projects received fund. The works in Kaniyamabatta and Panamaram block panchayats were pointed out in the audit.
There are allegations that undeserving beneficiaries also were granted funds and benefits of the Life Mission. Another irregularity pointed out was preparation of estimate without proper checking. The audit report which includes these findings was stopped by the finance department.
