Kannur: Daily commuters are finding it difficult to get tickets in reservation trains without general coach. Many are in waiting list as online quota has not been extended while there is also rush at counters.
It is also important to note that many switched from online option to physical counters irked over the unbearable service charge levied, thus increasing the rush. Similarly, absence of UTS (unreserved ticketing system) app, Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) and non-operational Jan Sadharan ticket counters are adding to their ordeal.
Though reservation through station counters are exempted from extra charges, due to heavy rush, getting more than one ticket a time is difficult. Likewise, the recommendation to increase online reservation limit from 6 to 50 a month is now backfiring. Meanwhile, at present, customers who have linked their IRCTC online account with Aadhar can book 12 tickets a month. However, the number is very low as commuters will find it difficult to commute on a daily basis with this limit.
Though some civic forums sent a letter to Southern Railways flagging the issue, no action has been taken. They also urge authorities to drop the same slab system of service charge for both long distance travel and short distance travel. The absence of General coaches along with online reservation limit and high service charges have left short distance daily commuters in lurch.
