Kannur: Severe clashes were witnessed in Muslim League in Kannur district. Youth League workers blocked the vehicle of Muslim League state vice president V K Abdul Khader Moulavi. The clashes resulted from the difference of opinion regarding the deputy mayor candidate in Kannur corporation.

K Shabeena was elected as deputy mayor following the discussion held late at night on Sunday. Two other candidates who were under consideration were rejected for selecting Shabeena. Following this, a group of Youth League workers blocked Abdul Khader Moulavi as he left after the UDF meeting. They protested for about 15 minutes.

“They did not follow democratic values. They did not even conduct a voting like Congress,” the party workers alleged. They also blamed that Abdul Khader Moulavi is trying to destroy League. Though the party workers were later pacified, intense protests have taken place in the party for selecting the deputy mayor without any discussion.
