Insurance for KSRTC staff: Mass errors in names of nominees
Kochi: Huge errors has been reported in the group personal accident insurance scheme for KSRTC employees. It is learned that names of nominees were written wrongly in all policy documents.
The errors were in the SBI general insurance taken for KSRTC staff.
The insurance policy which gives a coverage of Rs 10 lakh collected an annual premium of Rs 500 from each employee’s salary. Though the policyholder received alerts on the deduction of amount for the insurance premium, no employee has received any documents of the policy.
KSRTC employees approached the insurance company seeking the details of their policy after the insurance claim of the KSRTC driver who killed in the Avinashi road accident got delayed. The employees were shocked over the details when they downloaded the policy certificate.
Ernakulam native KK Vinu has given the name of his wife Manju as a nominee in the insurance application. But when he got the certificate, his nominee’s name was written as Bindhu Biju.
Cherthala native Muhammad Badushah’s nominee’s name appeared as P Pushpa. Interestingly, even an unmarried man got a wife in his policy as his nominee. Following this, the KSRTC employees filed a mass petition.
“As we identified the error, we were able to correct it. But if the mistake went unidentified, our family would have been in trouble,” said the employees.
They pointed out that the insurance claim will be denied if the nominee’s name is not written in the policy certificate.
After receiving the complaints, SBI general insurance manager has sent a letter to KSRTC MD asserting that it was a technical error. In the letter, the manager informed that action has been initiated to correct the mistakes and there will be no trouble over the insurance claim.
