Koduvally: The Indian National League (INL) has fielded a new candidate in Koduvally municipality after the CPM instructed to remove Karat Faisal from contesting the polls.

Customs department had interrogated Karat Faisal in connection with the gold smuggling case. INL Municipality General Secretary OP Raheed will replace Karat Rasak in Chundappuram 15th Division. The decision was taken by INL leadership after they held an emergency meeting.

Chundappuram is a seat that LDF handed over to INL. Initially, INL decided to field Karat Faisal without taking into account the controversy. Karat Faisal had even started his election campaign. CPM state committee asked INL leadership to replace Karat Faisal after the opposition stirred up a huge controversy over Karat Faisal's candidature.

INL state secretary CP Nasarkoya Thangal said that they have asked Karat Faisal to withdraw from the election.

Although a new candidate has been announced for the constituency, it is not clear whether Faisal would step back. There are reports that Faisal would contest as an independent candidate from the same constituency if he is denied a seat.
