Sulthan Bathery: A tiger found straying into the Vakeri village in Wayanad died on Saturday morning.

The cause of death is suspected to be the injuries it suffered during a brawl with other tigers inside the forest. The carcass has been shifted to the forest department lab for post-mortem procedures.

Locals first noticed the tiger on Thursday. The forest officials said that the tiger was in bad state and was unable to hunt. However, the department's effort to trap him failed to materialise.

The tiger was unable to cross the border wall leading to the forest due to ill health. As a result, the tiger prowled around the coffee plantation in the region.

On Saturday morning, the tiger was found dead on the plantation. More details regarding the death could be unveiled only after autopsy.
