Information Commission fines official for delayed RTI reply after applicant passes away

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Information Commission has slapped Rs 15,000 fine on an official concerned for delayed reply to a query.

Sulekha Babu was working with Nedumangad municipality. She filed an RTI application seeking details on pension and allowances. However, she did not get any response on time.

When appealed, the Information Commission summoned both Sulekha and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Fort Zonal Office Superintendent PV Jessymol, who was Nedumangad municipality superintendent and the information officer of the local body.

The Information Commission was about to begin evidence collection over the matter. However, Sulekha died on September 12, while she was undergoing treatment.

Later, the Information Commission in its evidence collection found that Jessymol did not give a response within stipulated time. The commission in response slapped a fine on her.
