Kannur: The UDF won the elections to the governing body of Thalassery Indira Gandhi Cooperative hospital on Sunday by defeating the panel of the disgruntled leader Mambaram Divakaran.

Divakaran, who controlled the hospital for 29 years, was recently expunged from the party. He was not on good terms with the DCC leadership or the state president K Sudhakaran. Divakaran allegedly refused to include the people who were recommended by the Congress state leadership in the panel. When he was ousted from the party, he contested on his own.

K Sudhakaran camped at Thalassery to coordinate the election work. In 2016, when Divakaran refused to add two people suggested by the DCC, the party made them contest separately. However, both of them lost. The governing body has 13 members. The election was held to 12 of them as one was elected unopposed.
