Kozhikode: The Indian Hockey Team goalkeeper in Tokyo Olympics P R Sreejesh was felicitated by Mathrubhumi in a function held at the head office. The Chairman and Managing Editor of Mathrubhumi P V Chandran gifted Sreejesh a cash award of Rs 2 lakhs following his stellar performance and India’s medal win in the Olympics.
P V Chandran said that Keralites are proud of Sreejesh’s victory. Managing Director of Mathrubhumi MP M V Shreyams Kumar said that India’s medal win in Hockey will prove to be a great encouragement for the younger generation of the country, aspiring to enter the arena of sports. Mathrubhumi Joint Managing Editor P V Nidheesh said that Sreejesh has proved that Indian players can shine internationally.
Sreejesh said that the inspiration that Mathrubhumi gives to the younger generation is invaluable. He recounted how Mathrubhumi Sports Magazine had printed the first article about him while he was a young player.
He also added that it was after that article that people started recognising him as a player and that it proved to be a great incentive for him in sports life from that point onwards.
