India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier Vikrant to be commissioned in 2021
Kochi: The first indigenously built aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy Vikrant will be commissioned in 2021, informed Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba. The finishing works of the ship is being completed in Cochin Shipyard Ltd and the trials prior to commissioning will start this year itself, he added.
The Chief of the Naval Staff was speaking at the launching of the guided missile destroyer INS Imphal at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders. The ship was named after Imphal in memory of the defeat of Japan army which attempted to trespass into the country during the World War II in 1944.
The Chief of the Naval Staff added that he is satisfied over the present status of the Navy and more military aircrafts and submarines will be commissioned soon. The Navy has bettered its position from buyers of weapons to makers under the foresighted leadership, he said.
