Thiruvananthapuram: Former Kerala minister and MLA K T Jaleel on Friday courted yet another controversy by describing Jammu and Kashmir as 'India-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir' and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir as 'Azad Kashmir.'
Jaleel made the remarks on a Facebook post regarding his visit to Kashmir. In the post written in Malayalam, he described the history of the land since the Mesopotamian period, and said: "the part of Kashmir annexed to Pakistan was known as 'Azad Kashmir' and it was an area where the Pakistan government does not have direct control."
"India Occupied Jammu and Kashmir consists of Jammu, Kashmir Valley and Ladakh," he wrote.
He also said that the people of Kashmir are furious about the abrogation of Article 370.
Jaleel received flak for the comments from BJP leaders on his Facebook post.
BJP leader Sandeer Varrier said the comments were "serious and it is clear that his venomous thinking is visible through the lines."
CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said he will respond after reading the Facebook post.
Jaleel, a CPM fellow-traveller, was a minister in the first Pinarayi Vijayan ministry.
