Increase testing, make sure vulnerable groups take booster dose: Centre to states

Thiruvananthapuram: The Union Health Ministry has asked states to increase the number of tests in view of the emergence of the new variant of Covid-19 in the country. The Centre has asked states to conduct antigen tests in areas where RT-PCR testing is not possible.

Currently, there is no hike in the number of Covid infections in Kerala. Only 406 cases were reported from December 20 to 26. A total of 11 deaths were reported in this time period. The test positivity rate in Kottayam is 2.44 per cent and in Kollam, it is 2.02 per cent. Other districts have a test positivity rate below 2 per cent.

The central government has also asked states to make sure that old people and those with co-morbidities have taken the precaution dose. As many as 8,53,122 people in the 18-59 age group have taken the precaution dose. In the age group above 60, 22,15,451 people received the booster dose.
