Increase number of COVID-19 tests: CM tells district collectors
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed district collectors to increase the number of COVID-19 tests. The CM also issued strict directive to close interior roads on district borders.
The Chief Minister issued the directives during a video conference with higher officials including district collectors, district police chiefs and district medical officers among others.
Prime Minister Narendara Modi will hold a video conference with chief ministers on Monday. Ahead of this meeting, the CM will hold a press conference with higher officials.
Statistics of medical inspections last week reveals that 500 tests are being conducted per day. Kerala has facilities to conduct 4,000 medical tests per day. Although the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has not granted permission to use random test kits, the direction is to conduct more tests using the available facilities.
Maximum number of tests should be conducted at hotspots using available facilities. Officials have been directed to conduct more tests on people who are interacting with the public but are not showing symptoms.
Kerala had prepared a plan of facilities that must be arranged while bringing back expats. According to this, the district collectors have been directed to identify more places to shelter them.
