Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has issued an order directing ration shops in Kerala to function on Sunday in the wake of nationwide strike on Monday and Tuesday.
Supplyco CMD has informed that all Supplyco outlets will be functioning today.
Meanwhile, a section of ration shop traders are not happy with the order. However, the state committee of Kerala Ration Employees Federation, affiliated to AITUC, has urged the ration shop traders to open ration shops on Sunday. The representatives also asked the members to take part in the national strike and make it a success.
Cooperative sector to work today
On the other hand, the registrar of cooperative sector in a circular has informed that the cooperative societies can even function on Sunday. However, the discretion on whether to function or not remains with the respective societies, it said.
The move comes amid year-end auditing and one-time settlement of dues are happening in these societies. They were functioning on Saturday too. Also due to national strike these societies will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday.
