Impose AFSPA in Kannur, demands T G Mohandas
Kannur: BJP leader T G Mohandas has sent a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh demanding imposition of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in Kannur to ensure peaceful life.
In the letter, Mohandas says insurgent and anti-national activities are rampant in the district, which has been notorious for political murders.
As per the data provided by National Crime Records Bureau, most incidents of unrest were reported in Kannur district last year.
“Even terror camps were organised in the district. This apart, 11 counterfeit currency cases were registered here in the last three months. Also, the top police officials have expressed their helplessness to tackle the increasing incidents of disturbance,” Mohandas said.
“The government has failed in maintaining the law and order. Even the CPM state secretary openly called for violence. Against this background, the lone solution is to entrust the peacekeeping operations to military or para-military forces by imposing ASFPA," he adds.
