IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Kerala; several districts on alert

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in the state for coming days. The low pressure formed over the Arabian Sea might produce widespread rain and thunderstorm with isolated heavy rain over the state from Monday onward. Orange and Yellow alerts have been issued for various districts.

The IMD has also predicted strong wind with speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph. Height of waves may rise between 2.8 m to 4.6 m along the Kerala coasts. Those residing in low lying areas have been instructed to stay vigilant.

Orange alert

Yellow alert

September 7, 2020: Ernakulam, Idukki, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod

September 8, 2020: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur

September 9, 2020: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod

September 10, 2020: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod

September 11, 2020: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod

Authorities have warned people residing in disaster prone areas to exercise caution. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea in the wake of adverse climatic conditions.
