IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Kerala from Monday; Yellow alert in all districts
Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted heavy rainfall in Kerala from Monday, August 3. A low pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around August 4 and if intensified, it could result in extreme heavy rainfall, IMD warned.
As a precautionary measure, yellow alert has been sounded in all districts on August 3 and 4.
In the past two years, the low pressure formed over Bay of Bengal had resulted in extremely heavy rains in Kerala leading to floods.
Strong winds of speed 40 to 50kmph are forecast and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea till August 4.
A Yellow alert has also been sounded for Saturday (Aug 1) and Sunday (Aug 2) in all districts except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Palakkad.
