Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain to lash Kerala in the coming days. Observing this, Kerala Electricity board has informed that there will be no power restriction till July 15.
At the same time, KSEB will summon a meeting to review the power production and availability. It is learned that KSEB will enforce power restriction in the state after examining the rainfall till July 15. According to reports water level has dropped in most of the dams.
“There is no need to enforce power restriction till July 15. At present 7.6 cr unit power should be produced to meet the needs of the state. Only 1.2 cr unit power is produced in the dams in state. This production will continue till July 15. If there is deficient rainfall, production of hydropower will decrease in the state,” said KSEB chairman NS Pillai.
He also noted that more electricity should be purchased from outside. But it is a difficult task as the state lacks proper electric line facility to receive power supply from other states. Hence, KSEB will be forced to restrict power supply in the state.
At present, only 43.5 crore unit power will be produced from the hydropower plants in the state.
