IMD forecasts extreme heavy rains in Kerala for two days; Red alert in Idukki


Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread heavy rains in the state for Wednesday and Thursday. It has also warned of extreme heavy rains in Idukki on Wednesday.

IMD issued a Red alert in Idukki to exercise the highest amount of caution. It also issued an Orange Alert for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad on Wednesday and for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Thursday.

Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) urged Ernakulam and Kottayam district authorities to make preparations in view of possible adverse scenario. It also instructed district authorities to prepare rehabilitation camps and shift people during daytime as the situation can worsen by night.
