Kochi: The state unit of the Indian Medical Association has expressed its resentment over the apathy of the state government in addressing the issues of the health department. Taking a dig at the government, the IMA sarcastically commented that as the tagline of the Covid-19 special campaign, the government is washing off hands and keeping a distance from the concerns raised by the association.
Exasperated over this, the association is planning to intensify its protest. The state-level protest will be held this week itself, the association informed. The main concern of the association is the continuing attacks against doctors and nurses in the state. Kerala IMA alleged that mostly the police do not follow procedures in the cases registered.
State president of Kerala IMA, Dr Samuel Koshy criticised the government for shunning away from its responsibility to make the health sector safe to work.
“Though the doctors are getting attacked continuously, police is taking a stance to protect the attackers,” he alleged.
Similarly, Kerala IMA alleged that the state government is not taking any serious note of the suggestions raised by the association in Covid-19 situation management and preventive measures.
Meanwhile, the association is also planning to intensify the protest against the Union government’s ‘mixopathy’ move of integrating all systems of medicine such as Ayurveda and modern medicine. IMA also slammed the Union government’s move to replace the Hippocratic Oath of medical practitioners with Charak Shapath.
